hand their imagination back.

Late afternoon. "Can I have the iPad? Just one show?"

Open the orange lid instead. They grab the shovel, load the dump truck and flatten a road for the excavator, and the iPad stays on the counter. Because they found something better to do with their hands that also develops real world skills.

◈ screen free play | fewer iPad fights

soft enough to squish. firm enough to build.

Squeeze a handful and it holds the shape of your fingers. Pack it into a castle mold and it comes out with stairs, bricks and a little arched door. One swipe and it's soft sand again, ready for the next build.

That feeling is what keeps them coming back. Little hands squeeze, press and pour, the room gets quieter, and sooner or later you'll be squeezing a handful too.

◈ soft, moldable sand | castles, stairs and all

the sandbox you grew up with, indoors

Sand indoors sounds like a mistake you only make once. So all the digging happens inside the orange bin, with walls high enough to keep it there. Kitchen table, playroom floor, the rainy Saturday nobody planned for: it works anywhere they can sit.

When play is over, everything goes back in the same box. Trucks in, lid on, clips shut, onto the shelf. Every piece has a place to go back to, so cleanup is fast and easy.

◈ any weather | lid on, done

an hour of play from a ten minute kid

Most toys have an ending. The puzzle gets finished, the tower gets built, and ten minutes later they're asking what's next.

A sand pile is never finished. They build a castle, the bulldozer knocks it down, the excavator digs a hole and the dump truck fills it back in. Then they start over. Every time the lid comes off, it's a brand new site.

◈ build it, knock it down, repeat

a whole construction site. they're the boss.

Five trucks, from the excavator to the dump truck. Cones, a traffic light, two street lamps, a barrier and a palm tree for the corner. They decide where the road goes and who gets to drive.

Then turn off the lights. Charge the stones under a lamp for a few minutes, switch off the lights, and they glow. The dig site just became a night shift. Don't be surprised when big brothers and sisters wander over to help.

◈ 5 mini trucks | glowing stones

buying it as a gift?

the sand gift parents will thank you for

Sand is usually the present parents quietly dread. This one plays inside its own bin and packs away under a lid that clips shut, so it's a gift for the kid and a relief for the grown ups.

No screen, no charger, no app. For birthdays, for Christmas, and for the grandkid who already has every gadget.

what parents ask before they order

What age is it for?

Ages 3 and up. The stones, cones and signs are small parts, so it isn't for children under 3. Big brothers and sisters often join in too.

Will sand get all over my house?

Very little of it. The play happens inside the bin's walls, so most of the sand stays where it started. Then the lid clips shut over everything.

What's the sand like?

Soft and moldable. Squeeze it and it holds its shape, press it into a mold and it keeps the details, and one swipe turns it back into soft sand. It's made for building, not like loose beach sand.

How do the stones glow in the dark?

Leave them under a lamp or in daylight for a few minutes, then turn off the lights. The glow fades slowly as they play, and a few more minutes in the light charges them again.

Is it hard to set up?

No. The first time, pour the sand into the bin. After that, unclip the lid and they're playing.
